Happy New Year!
In one episode of Grace and Frankie, the twenty-first century Netflix™ version of The Golden Girls, Jane Fonda as Grace and Lily Tomlin as Frankie decide to drown their sorrows over both their divorces by going out on the town for a “Yes Night.” A “Yes Night” is a night where no matter what question is asked, the answer is “Yes.” These Boomer Babes have an adventure that leads them to getting drunk in a nightclub, dancing on top of the bar, being tossed out and thrown to the curb on their keisters, and then licking their wounds, rubbing their butts, and proudly, drunkenly, smiling about their brave commitments to saying, “Yes!”
Many Aging Human Females and Males have a lifelong cultural tendency to say, “Yes,” to be the “Good Girl” or “Good Guy” who goes along to get along. But for many Boomers, inner growth is struggling to say, “NO!” to “societal expectations” and embracing their true feelings and wishes with a riproaring “YES!”
Also, sometimes fear can mess up any Boomer’s head, leading to a quick and safe, “NO!” Advice to that knee-jerk response to fear: say “YES!”
“YES” is a screaming, laugh-out-loud affirmation telling Lady Life, ‘Bring it on!’”
And what about the consequences? Have faith! As Tina Fey says, “Say yes and you’ll figure it out afterwards.”
OK, Boomers, your mission, if you choose to accept it: Say “YES!” to exploring strange new 2022 adventures, those missions impossible. And be sure that the iphone video self-destructs afterwards!
Sometimes it takes a Precious Old Dame or Precious Old Dude to urge you to your “YES!”
And, best of all, it takes a GREAT Precious Old Dame or Precious Old Dude to be by your side while you are “YES”-ing together!
To paraphrase poet Mary Oliver, “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life [in 2022]?”
With deepest wishes for a happy, healthy, wild, precious YES! life in 2022,
Irene
